THE T.W.PHILLIPS MEMORIAL INTER-SCHOOL DEBATE
St Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun won the 4th T.W. Phillips Memorial Inter-School English Debate held at Wynberg Allen School, Mussoorie on April 24, 2017. Around 12 schools from across the state participated in the debate.
The topics for the final rounds of the debate were “Swachch Bharat is an imaginary place” and “The returning of national awards is not the right way to protest”.
After the first two rounds which were elimination rounds, St Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun, Mussoorie International School (MIS), Mussoorie, Sherwood College, Nainital, and Doon International School, Dehradun qualified for the final. Sherwood College was represented by Apoorva Shah, Himani Mehra and Akshata Malhan. The St Joseph’s team was represented by Kshitij Bisht, Ojaswita Negi and Nirbhay Rasaily.
The eminent panel of judges adjudicating the final round included Mr Vinamra Longani a writer and alumnus of the school, Dr Sanon and Dr (Mrs) V Sanon.
Arnav Sharma of St George’s College, Apoorva Shah of Sherwood College, and Kartikeya Chamola of Doon International School were adjudged the best speakers. Shivang Uniyal of The Asian School, Saket Raturi of Oak Grove, Arya Rao of Unison World, Kumaraditya Gupta of Kasiga and Noah Douglas of Woodstock School were awarded certificates for being the most promising speakers.
The Guest of honour Dr Venu Sanon gave away trophies and certificates to the winners. The winning trophy for the debate was awarded to St Joseph’s Academy. Sherwood College was the first runners up and MIS, Mussoorie, stood third. L Tindale, Principal, Wynberg Allen School, thanked the participants and the judges.
