The school has adopted the I.C.S.E and I.S.C curriculum for the students enrolled in years 10 &12. The course provides an exciting, challenging and detailed introduction to a wide range of Biological topics. The students cover a great deal of practical work and consider this course to be an excellent preparation for further career options, allowing the teachers greater scope to explore topics in depth from the 7th year onwards.

Aims of the curriculum

  1. To develop an understanding of the inter-relationship between sustainability and environmental adaptations.
  2. To develop an understanding of the interdependence of plants and animals so as to enable pupils to acquire a clear comprehension of the significance of life and its importance in human welfare.
  3. To understand the capacities and limitations of all the biological and economic activities so as to be able to use them for a better quality of life.
  4. To acquire the ability to observe, experiment, hypothesize, infer, handle equipment accurately and make correct recordings.
  5. To create awareness about the problems of the environment and the manner in which these problems can be overcome.
  6. To create awareness of the fundamentals of human biology , food, health, nutrition and population control.

The staff all have specialist interests and draw on experience from previous careers in science or science communication. Our teaching emphasizes a practical approach to scientific enquiry, with a very extensive repertoire of experimental work and dissection from the outset.
